Here's something I rarely brag about: I got fired after 6 weeks on my first software development job right out of college. Reason: Incompetence, basically. And relative to the (in hindsight) ridiculous task that was given to me- creating a billing system in 4 weeks- true! 1/

Regardless this had a hugely negative impact on what I perceived as my prospects, so I went for a quality assurance job next thinking I was just not fit for the task of software development. It took -years- to regain confidence and eventually go back to software engineering. 2/
