Here's something I rarely brag about: I got fired after 6 weeks on my first software development job right out of college. Reason: Incompetence, basically. And relative to the (in hindsight) ridiculous task that was given to me- creating a billing system in 4 weeks- true! 1/

Well even in countries with the most worker-friendly laws there is normally a probationary period where either party can walk away if it's not working out. The USA keeps you in that state of uncertainty forever and I guess you get paid more because of it.

I'd also argue that expecting a fresh college graduate to implement a payment system well in 4 weeks says more about them than you.

I'm pretty sure they just wanted an excuse to get rid of me from day one so they created an impossible task for me to fail on. There's a little more to the story but I'll save that for another day. I just wasn't savvy enough at the time to know better.
