One of the big focuses these days, especially with MyHeritage as a customer, is figuring out how to make the model more robust with -real world- old photos. That's an interesting puzzle, as it requires creative problem solving in effectively "simulating" old photo issues.

The trick is to figure out what's important and what's not in dealing with old photos to arrive at that "95% percent solution" that takes "5% of the effort".

Yes! I have a bunch of photos but many were taken with poor lighting etc. Any idea if datasets exist of well preserved photos and aged? One idea is: buy very old issues of time magazine and use the digital scans as the target.

We have a lot of our own genuine aged photos (over a million) but not corresponding well preserved counterparts. Not a bad idea that you're suggesting there- quite creative!
