2/ I turns out I ruled out the idea based on a bad design decision. This happens ALL THE TIME. I guess there are multiple ways of finding the right way eventually. Either you can be smart the first time, or perhaps just drunkenly stumble until you inevitably end up there.

There is no true Science without time, patience, errors, and curiosity-driven pillow thoughts. Congratulations! Can you share some general thoughts about what have you figured out? I'm honestly curious. Maybe it is something that can be useful on other fields? Otherwise it's fine

I guess I can say that glitches I was seeing were the result of subtle numerical instability (numbers getting a bit too big), and I had pinpointed where this was happening and why it looked the way it did. And what the general solution was (8 months ago LOL).

I have a line I use, my father taught me & I've taught it to my children - the person that never made a mistake never made nothing - so they know if something goes awry in a match, study whatever, there'll be no comeback from me. I've been there too. Keep up the great work Jason!
