1/ Almost two years ago I worried I was a bit foolish that I was pursuing state of the art image colorization that people would pay for. After all, Google already had announced that they were working on it. How could I compete with that?

2/ Well I also had enough experience in software to know that a lot of true innovation and advances simply require smart choices and dedication to the problem. More controversially- I'm strongly of the opinion that software by large groups is hampered by group think.

This is so true. Small software teams can be very impactful. You have the balance of a complete software team while also been super effective. The bigger the group, you add more variables that might slow the development, while adding little to the "core" development.

That's exactly it. It can help to add more people but you really have to be mindful about it. Mythical Man Month, etc.
