2/ Well I also had enough experience in software to know that a lot of true innovation and advances simply require smart choices and dedication to the problem. More controversially- I'm strongly of the opinion that software by large groups is hampered by group think.

3/ So here we are in the present, and we're still ahead of the game. I'm quite surprised to be honest, even with the beliefs going into this of the power of individual dedication. I'm not saying this to brag but I just want to share what I think will be helpful for others.

Oh yeah I definitely think that's a big part of it. I just want to convey the idea that you shouldn't give up on something like this just because a bigger, more intimidating player is in the picture. There's a lot of advantages to being a dedicated individual.
