It's really weird how we apparently have this death cult in the United States marching off the cliff willingly. Like I really am interested to see what is written about these times years from now. This is such a a bizarre time, and I think it's a mistake to stay silent on that.https://twitter.com/donlemon/status/1276130270933065734 …

I recently read a fantastic but terrifying article on this topic; I think you may appreciate it:https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/06/inside-the-cult-of-trump-his-rallies-are-church-and-he-is-the-gospel …

I grew up in the South, in the Bible belt. There's tremendous pressure to stay, to conform. The culture values conformity and loyalty. But it's full of hypocrisy. Your social connections are dependent on your external signaling of loyalty to tribe. Brainwashing.

American social dynamics are so incredibly complex; there are like five countries here, layered on top of one another and connected in myriad ways. I've been here over a decade, I'm a naturalized citizen, and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface.

It's quite sad seeing people you trusted fall into cults of personality, tribalism, and conspiracy theories. I've found that most of them have an epistemology based on authority & forego critical thinking. "If you say it loud enough and long enough people will believe you."
