1/ Hey DeOldify users: I've said this before and I'll say it again- DeOldify by itself does not come close to the quality of manual work, artistically nor historically. It's a nice tool to quickly generate something more relatable and is an interesting exercise in AI art.

I agree with that, BUT
#DeOldify as a tool that enables an immediate colour perspective to a Black & White family pic, frankly it's invaluable & quite brilliant. It's a fantastic tool to have available. -
Yes, a tool! But not something to gloat about saying that manual colorists are going to loose their jobs or any meaning to their hobby. I've seen that a lot and I just keep shaking my head. So I feel compelled to say I really don't approve of that behavior.

One cannot deny it's an invaluable reference point, akin to a Polaroid as a guide.
@irelandincolour for example, uses#DeOldify among other pieces of software to get as much accuracy as he can when restoring pics. Even when they tell you how they've done it...it's still ingenious -
I really like that sort of blended effort. Ireland In Colour is the gold standard of that IMHO.

Can you see this used as a "helper function" in software like Photoshop? Imagine dragging and dropping a color Photo of a 1950s Tram onto an old Photo and the program would you the color Photo of the Tram to colorize all the b&w trams. Every Object could be colored like this.

Sure!
