How come Deoldify still photos can often look like color photo or manual colorization but Deoldified video as seen on YouTube anyway has washed appearance like 1920s two-strip Technicolor?

It's a conscious trade-off- stability between frames came at the price of vividness. There's ways to improve this situation (greatly) but I just haven't had the time to do it.

I don't understand what they want. DeOldify is a fascinating AI-tool, providing a possible, but not necessarily authentic version of colored reality in a quick&easy way. Great to experiment. Manual colorizers have another approach, work effort, meaning and scientific quality.

It's like AI-Voices. Even if the quality is already very high, you will want to use human voice actors for usual cinematographic approach. For me, a one-man-studio making short movies with (at most) 0 budget and without ROI, just for sake of art, AI-voices are inevitable.
