Just make the user upload the colored image as well and copy the colors to the b/w one. 100% accuracy.

That's utterly absurd. Not even people who colour in photos manually necessarily match "ground truth" as the records they have are typically not complete. I wish people thought slightly harder about the complexity of the problem as well as you've pointed out. You do great work.

I wish people thought slightly harder about the complexity of a lot of things! The world would be a better place....

I see stuff
@irelandincolour being posted. People/Historians/Costume designers etc may question the colour choices BUT to his eternal credit he takes it onboard, checks it for himself & acts on the changes & thanks them. It's a win-win & another follower gained by@johnbreslinThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

That looks quite impressive to begin with. There will always be someone somewhere complaining that the 99% solution didn't solve the remaining 1% :D One question: do you have any blog post explaining the tech (at some details at least) behind the model?
-
There was this blog from last year: https://www.fast.ai/2019/05/03/decrappify/ … Of course that's quite bit dated now compared to what I'm working on currently. I don't even use a GAN anymore. But that's a good start.

could you allow some form of user guided colorization like Zhang's paper had done ? I see that saffron keeps showing up as purple often, for the images of old Indian saints. Perhaps a pallete to choose the next most likely alternatives for a given region

Sorry, I didin’t mean to criticize, I love the tool! It’s just interesting that your results on the Malevich paintings are consistent across different settings as you say, which might suggest they are the real colors, but apparently they are not even close.

I think your product attracts bikeshedding because literally anyone can say “look it didn’t get that right, so dumb” Which takes zero effort to say.
-
Yeah exactly. Hence my response is to invite others to make it better themselves! Haven't had takers on that yet.
