It's an interesting but key property of the model that I think is overlooked: It's clearly learning subtle color cues that are coming from the materials as opposed to the model just memorizing objects. Makes the model a lot more versatile.

How well do you think it would work for colorizing video?

It'd be in desperate need of temporal modeling. Video is easy as long as there isn't too much color. Otherwise it flickers. I know that sounds harsh on my own work but it's true :P
