Excellent point. I mean...it only makes sense from the perspective of the big companies to do this and I can't really call it "evil". It's just the natural outcome of giving away your work.

Such a license would not be an Open Source license. I find nothing inherently objectional about such licenses at all (there are many that exist in the world that are "trial ware" or "share ware" or "source available"). I only object to calling them Open Source.
