Would you consider your work being free to copy after your death or set amount of years to devalue or increase in value when it's used by someone else?
There's no point on sitting on something when I'm dead :P Yeah of course at that point, making it free is the only sensible thing to do. Point is that we're disincentivzing the living (the ones who do the actual work!) from doing the great work in the first place. That's bad.
I'm just confused on what you understand under "value". The only thing that changes with time is how much value you can extract from your work but any influence and historical impact it does accumulates from day 1. It's very personal where one outweighs the other.
