Some people are so furiously advocating to keep their master/slave terminology that I feel like their next step will be renaming their master branches to my_führer.

In terms of clarity, master/slave is better than main/dependant. It's giving commands vs. following commands. I don't think extrapolating it to fuhrer makes any sense here.
It's just pointing out that words matter. I don't see why this should be the hill to die on defending this personally.

My take is some people dislike "microcensorship", which encroaches our speaking/writing little by little. There is history behind words, and some history is not good. But do we need to abandon all words with negative history? It's all about where we draw the line.

I think where we draw the line is when the words are hurtful, and you are told that they are, even when you don't necessarily see it yourself. There's plenty of alternatives. And slippery slope arguments can get quite silly- "what's next- you can marry your dog?" re gay marriage.
