this is true, New Zealand is not only small country by population but also at the very end of the earth. Most of the countries who suffered most have large foreign travellers and dense population.

I certainly don't think you're wrong on the "uniform age distribution" point. Self preservation would probably be the best motivator. Altruism apparently isn't.

The UK is a small island nation, and we've got a pretty decent high score in this Covid game.
-
Way more people in the UK (66.5 million vs 4.88 million), and way more visitors (36 million vs 3.88 million ). New Zealand also cut off their borders almost entirely. Not saying the UK couldn't do that but it does seem like comparing apples and oranges.

1/ In retrospect, closing down borders earlier, except for trade, and making masks mandatory in public places like transportation and supermarkets etc. plus easy access to testing would probably prevent the situation we have now.
-
But then again ppl would probably complain about the strict measures like they are already here in Germany. Pointing out that many hospitals have unused capacities and that covid19 ain't that bad, instead of seeing that measures actually prevented situations like in Italy

There's this other small country called China

I'm just saying the challenges aren't comparable. I'm not excusing it. I just don't think people criticizing the US response do the cause any good by saying "why couldn't we do it like New Zealand!?!" when it's an clearly apples and oranges comparison.
