2/ And I'm running these pretty constantly so yeah "it's paying for itself". More importantly though freedom of experimentation is by far the most important thing to prioritize to me and having a local machine helps to promote that, IMHO.
Yes, I agree. I am running on cloud GPU and it costs a lot. However, I only need that for a few weeks so it much better to run on the cloud. Moreover, it offers more customization especially to increase the memory/disk size.
Having my own machine was the best decision I made back in 2018. Though I need to upgrade my GPU.
Yeah, GPUs are getting powerful each year. I feel dealing with hardware is painful that's why I always prefer cloud solutions. I would say 95% of the research/projects I do are on colab.
