1/ With DeOldify being a real business now we invested in 4 Quadro RTX 8000 48GB video cards back in March. Expensive- definitely. Worth it? Totally. I'm now having the revelation of "oh...bigger models and bigger batches do help!" rather than endlessly chasing clever hacks.

2/ Seriously though, we're getting some great results with the latest hardware. Having to be clever for almost two years with limited hardware really paid off though and you have to keep in mind that potential gains in software are much greater than in hardware.

Did you think about using AWS GPU instances with Tesla (P3dn)?

I'm pretty adverse to cloud solutions honestly, and strongly prefer having a local box. Chiefly because I think the billing structure and setup disincentives experimentation and changing your mind.

Agree, I'm the same but it's nice option to tryout before investing money in hardware (compare performance and see if investment is worthwhile).

Looking at pricing now, it's criminal. 1-yr Reserved Instance for p3.16xlarge (4X Tesla V100 and 488 memory) is $15.91/h. That's $140k per year. You can DIY for less.
