1/ With DeOldify being a real business now we invested in 4 Quadro RTX 8000 48GB video cards back in March. Expensive- definitely. Worth it? Totally. I'm now having the revelation of "oh...bigger models and bigger batches do help!" rather than endlessly chasing clever hacks.
2/ Seriously though, we're getting some great results with the latest hardware. Having to be clever for almost two years with limited hardware really paid off though and you have to keep in mind that potential gains in software are much greater than in hardware.

Single machine. Have to be careful not to run the tea kettle at the same time or else you blow a fuse!

So what I'm using is actually Lamda Lab's Quad Max: https://lambdalabs.com/deep-learning/workstations/4-gpu#tiers-triptych-anchor … . I did build my previous quad configuration but the difference here was that power was really tricky this time and I couldn't figure out something I was comfortable with relative to cost/risk.
That's some serious setup for doing Kaggle. Drop the business and join the fun.
