Tech, like many things already is tied to politics, a lot. Politics dictate who gets funding and what gets studied or worked on; in academia and it the industry. Without talking about politics, we don't talk about privacy or how data can be used for nefarious reasons for ex.

Exactly. Pretending we can treat tech like it operates in a life-consequence free bubble is naive at best and can be incredibly destructive. Tech has consequences, and you as the engineer and citizen are responsible. Functioning Republics aren't just about voting!
