When social media tailors what you see to maximize "engagement" and winds up selling you on a bunch of garbage conspiracy theories, the whole idea that it's just a "tool" and you're operating with 100% free will fly out the window. Says me, the guy on Twitter. Yes I know ironic
Now you may think you're smarter than to fall for those conspiracy theories, but that's really the essence of how propaganda works: Repeating the same message over and over until you believe it. It has worked for ages. And you are not immune to it.
The cure to propaganda is independent sources. Without phone videos going viral George Floyd's death would go completely unnoticed.
