Is there any research into torturing AI? A pain response is universal across life forms with a nervous system. We seek to replicate a nervous system. Replicating a pain response seems to be a logical step. We've taught chat bots to make us laugh. Why not teach them to scream?

My point is that we are far, far away from AGI. Much further than most researchers want to believe. Or so it seems to me, for whatever that's worth. And we dance around the topic of whether bots can have a soul. But to have a soul, you'll need anguish, or life is hollow.

Replying to @theshawwn
The more I have to fiddle around with knobs to make changes in my models that I quite frankly can barely make sense of, the more I realize how much of this stuff barely works. And how narrowly it does work. I agree with you 100%, and I wasn't always that pessimistic!
