4/ If you're one of those people that are pursuing this sort of "networking"... I have a better idea. Meet real people. Do actual work, and put it out there. Build real relationships. Treat people like they matter and aren't a means to an end. Build a genuine reputation.
5/ Accept that things may happen, or may not. Expect that if you do get opportunities out of this, they'll probably not be what you expected. If you don't get opportunities from this, at least you'll have not wasted your time putting off a bunch of people!
I totally agree with you. Never been on linked in because I find it pretty off putting for these same reasons. Recommendations without reputation and skin in the game are worthless. A better approach for recruiters, imho, is the one used at @PrimeflowHQ

I shut down my LinkedIn profile a few years ago for just that reason: too much 'look who I know', and too little 'look what I can do'. That, and it became too spammy.
