Well put. No, not every opinion or perspective is worth entertaining or giving air time. Stupidity and insanity simply need to be resisted. Or else it takes a life of its own. Let's be honest- the stupidity and insanity is getting really out of hand these days.https://twitter.com/thedailybeast/status/1260177965721231360 …

The "Plandemic" conspiracy video, and others like it, are shocking until you remember we're in a "post-truth America." “When we see a friend 'just asking questions'...it’s our responsibility as people with brains to push back,” writes @mollyjongfast. https://trib.al/t7u27YF

I like most of your sentiments, but once it’s “let’s seek out and actively suppress X,” it’s too far for me. Freedom to choose means freedom to make wrong choices. And yes, companies can choose to suppress specific voices. But then companies define what you may choose.

I'm simply talking about all of us exercising our "freedom" to try to help put an end to the madness. Rather than sitting back and watching it happen. Honestly I think "freedom" is a bit abused and overused much like the 2nd Amendment. There's nuance (example, no murder).

I get the sentiment. I just don’t buy it. But there’s a reason: I was actively suppressed on HN for my words, and it took two years to get back into good standing. You know me, a bit. Do I seem like someone worth excluding? Until it happens to you, it’s hard to understand.

Freedom is often abused. But it comes with the territory. I think people should be allowed to make foolish decisions, as long as those decisions don’t physically or financially harm anyone.

Right now, you can say whatever you want, because you happen not to have bad opinions. But “bad” is impossible to define. And unless you literally believe everything society happens to believe, it’s a matter of time till you’re on the other end of the stick.

I can't agree with that level of relativism, and I think that might be the crux of the issue really: "My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge". There's real and there's batshit, for example.

I respect your disagreement. It’s certainly a valid point of view. And it would be lovely if all the craziness disappeared tomorrow. But, for example, it would sound batshit to say “Epstein may not have killed himself.” Yet it might be true. So is it ok to say, or not? Why?

Well that one isn't entirely closed tight, honestly, so that sort of statement should invite a skeptic to pick apart the theory if there is anything actually though out. That's different than basically saying up is down and the earth is flat.

Is it so different? If flat earthers were the only ones to be suppressed, no one would care. But you can’t silence the flat earthers without power. And whoever you give the power to will inevitably abuse it. But it’s not really about flat earthers, right? It’s about politics.

Well, the problem is that -everything- is being politically charged now (climate change, for example). And quite frankly, I don't care what the label is when there's such an dangerous assault on truth. If it's "politics", so be it. That doesn't shield it from scrutiny.
