I highly recommend this thread and the referenced article about Malcom Gladwell. Grossly oversimplified narratives about how the world works make lots of money and make the readers feel smart. Yeah definitely, had to make that fit in a tweet ^^ But I think theres some truth to it: a book was to please the reader, not pass a peer review committee, so the incentive still is towards making something appealing to a wide public. If that makes sense?
