1/ I just stopped reading the book Atomic Habits after page 15. Why? Well, in the first chapter a narrative is pumped up about how the British Cycling team was turned around with a coach that instilled tiny 1% improvements/habits sprinkled here and there that added up

The problem is that an expert at something is most likely not a expert at writing, so you're still better off buying books by people who are good at writing even if they're not scientists; in addition, many scientists spin facts around narratives too.

I recommend reading reviews *by experts* of books written by people who are good at writing. They tend to be overly critical but at least you get a clear idea of what you're getting into!

Very few things are worth 300+ pages. But that amount of paper can be sold more easily.

We read because we hope a book will improve our lives, but rarely does a book change anything at all. It is just an accessible thing that seems able to improve our life, and there's no way to do it wrong - as long as you can read in a straight line.
