For deoldify, I think to a large extent, the research is the product. I don't see another competitive moat there, at least yet. So giving away the research seems like a dangerous step.

Yes, this is exactly how I see it. Don't get me wrong....I'd like to show everyone what was done and in fact I've had a lot of back and forth with @danasday on this. It wasn't a decision taken lightly.

There are many reasons a company open sources some of its software. In your case, it seems you can't articulate the reason. But let me give you one good reason. It's a trojan horse. You want other businesses to integrate your software which gives you an upsell opportunity.

Your play should be to maximize the number of use cases that may require colorization. It is likely that you know what these are and only potential customers may know.
