There are many reasons a company open sources some of its software. In your case, it seems you can't articulate the reason. But let me give you one good reason. It's a trojan horse. You want other businesses to integrate your software which gives you an upsell opportunity.

Your play should be to maximize the number of use cases that may require colorization. It is likely that you know what these are and only potential customers may know.
