1/ I think it's time to address a question/criticism I've been getting quite a bit which was fully expected when going into making DeOldify into a business: Why not be awesome and give out the latest and greatest DeOldify for free? For the greater good?

You're doing work, you should get paid for it. A lot of the teams that are putting all their stuff out there unrestricted for free are attached to huge companies who are making that money back off us many times over. e.g. FB research truly amazing work but parent firm is evil.

Would rather just pay you directly

Rooting for you! What you are doing must take a tremendous amount of work, looking forward to giving you my money. Also, if you haven't already, definitely check the

You've developed an awesome piece of software that people around the world are able to get personal value from, for free. The free version works wonders, has provided joy to so many people. You shouldn't have to apologize for finding a successful business model, congratulations!
-
Thanks! That means a lot.

Let's hope the well-paid researchers in companies like FB and GOOG have the decency not to screw you over by spending their 20% time trying to build a better colorizer.

It's inevitable- there will be competition. We view this as a window of opportunity to create a unique niche for a bit. But nothing like that lasts forever, and that's ok. We'll adapt.
