my first job out of school was in San Diego and it was not for me at all the only practical way to bike to work was biking on the 5 which was madness, and pretty much all the software jobs were in sprawled-out office parks that guaranteed a similar situation

It comes down to if you are happy with your compensation and life balance then keep being happy. If you believe you are under compensated then make your case for what you believe you are worth.
