1/ This is just stupid and doesn’t align with the evidence. I’ve known plenty of people who worked hard like this yet didn’t get far because the work was ineffective. My line here is usually that passion is the choice to work on one thing because you enjoy/value it the most out of many, obsession is the rejection that anything else is worth working on.

And don’t forget blind luck. Sometimes being at the right place, at the right time and having the right mindset or skills makes all the difference. The component of chance makes reproducing the “lightning in a bottle” moment that lead to success for one person very difficult.
