I see a lot of effort going towards “empathy policing” on Twitter. It comes from a good place mostly, I think. But it also seems odd to put so much focus on whether “obese” is a slur regardless of context when, you know, we’re putting kids in cages and they’re dying.

And that’s just one of many examples. We all know it. Here in the US nationalists are being normalized and shockingly drive policy now. Conspiracy theories, even anti-Semitic ones, are becoming mainstream. Yet those of us who care can’t help but attack each other instead. Why?

Me from 3 years ago would say: evolution has left a lot of bugs in our brains. Me today: randomness in training produces these artifacts! They are unavoidable!! We are doomed!!!
