Have the impression that a lot of people in Data Science are getting carried away by algos and/or technology. In the end you want to solve a problem and especially in non-technical business domains technology alone is imho seldom a solution. What do you think?
Definitely agree with this and in fact I think it’s one of the most important things to consider in engineering. If you don’t exercise judicious “no’s” in designs you wind up trying to program everything and anything, no matter what the cost/benefit is.

This is precisely where a lot of needless complexity and maintenance nightmares originate.

Granted I’m speaking more from the perspective of software development but I think it’s the same basic issue at hand.
