JavaScript isn't popular because of any inherent technical merits. It's popular because it's where the lowest wage labor can be found. It's popular the way that manufacturing in China and Vietnam is popular. It's the offshore destination of inefficient venture capital.
Man....I really feel like I’m going to get pounced on by the Twitter mob by agreeing with you. But my turning point as a developer going from web to deep learning stemmed from me realizing how awful JavaScript was and that I didn’t want to invest any more effort in that world.
