Really impressed by the human figures in this one. Small and hard to identify especially with this style but it did a great job.
Yeah engravings like this are one of favorite things to colorize because the results are surprisingly cool.
Engravings are interesting, usually leaves it uncolored, especially stone, which is the 'correct' color. The texture must make it obvious? Then I tried to manually pre-process images to remove the texture queues to get different results and it didn't change as much as I expected.pic.twitter.com/M7j6I1Nqj2
I'm curious if there exists a relatively simple transformation of an engraving that makes it DeOldify color it like a photo, or the difference is far deeper.
The fact that it does clearly color leaf shaped objects green makes me think maybe it wouldn't need to change that much maybe?
1/ Well I can tell you this much- some engravings work much better than others. William Miller's engravings just work really really well, and I think the difference is in the level of detail- the more cues as to what the object is, the better.

It works pretty well on statues! https://twitter.com/jonathanfly/status/1141161030149689345 … A lot seems to depend on the lighting/shadows.
Jonathan Fly 👾 added,
LOL that’s disturbing. And purple, of course
It properly *doesn't* color it in many that I tried, but results varied a ton with lighting differences. It also turned the ocean into grass -- those are boats down there in the second image!
