I didn’t notice at first. I don’t know if it would make much of difference but the highest render_factor I could manage on a 1070 was 38
Ha now you can’t unsee it. Welcome to my world :p . That render_factor is about as good as you can get with results regardless of gpu right now.

Any insight into why that is? Is it just because of the training data or more of a limitation with the model / training procedure?

I only know how to avoid it so far. And that's to avoid doing too much GAN training.
