I think social media is a big culprit. It feels good in the moment but in the overall it adds anxiety. In the time you spend checking social media you could be responding to those letters and emails. It just doesn't feel as immediately rewarding to do so.

Been thinking lately about the necessity of boredom, which makes things like cooking and writing letters comparatively more rewarding. Smart phones and the internet have killed boredom.

Man, great points you bring up. Yeah I don't think it's hopeless and there's choices to be made (like..just say 'No' to things that stress you out). But I think the main thing that the article does really well is to to point out the 'water' that us 'fish' are swimming in.
