The real benefits are deep and like anything else, a result of consistent practice for years. Most of the hype falls through because they promise too much in too little time/effort.

it's surrounded by real science too :) I believe it's UCLA that has a neuroscience program that works directly with high ranking monks and even the dalai lama to look at the positive effects on the brain and it's structure
