Yesterday someone (ML, CS PhD, Stanford) said he would not hire a person who is online educated in Machine Learning. Who here agrees and who thinks differently?

I think it’s not a question of being more or less intelligent, I hope we all agree on that. I’m wondering (and questioning) if a formal degree provides something essential that cannot be replaced by online education and if so, what it is.
I’ll readily admit I’d never take all the math classes I took for my CS degree on my own online. Ditto for the gen eds (also quite valuable for the most part). But that’s me.... n of 1 lol.

I never had a formal technical education. So I guess I don't know what I'm missing out on.

But you had a formal education. Technical or not is not really relevant for this question. Question is; would you miss sth if all your degrees were online.
