But still the fact that Anima is from IIT has nothing to do with the student who said this term, Anima already pointed out that the thread was inviting sexist/racist jokes and was distasteful. She was already doing a lot of educating to start with

The burden to educate should fall on many people, especially those who created the thread and were participating in the jokes, not on her, and especially not because she also happens to be from the same chain of schools. I mean to get out of this thread and silenced notifications

Did that on FB but can't do that on twitter & unsure if there's a way to do it. There are many problematic things that occurred but unfortunately its clear that no education/agreement will happen over social media, hence the reason to disengage.

leading to a lot of change, A) creating an atmosphere where people like her could tell the stories of terrible things that were done & perpetuated by this culture, B) D&I co-chairs, exposing 2 men etc etc. But people focused on Hal's tone and he got a lot of emails attacking him

His actions caused so many changes for the better, and many of us consider him to be such a vocal ally. The first thing people said to him though was that he was being too sensitive and the joke was just fine, many people laughed, and his tone was bad in how he brought it up

Which is, ironically, very toxic and drives people away. Making these accusations so publicly isn’t something to do lightly, and more discreet measures should be exhausted first. Fight the good fight, but fight it responsibly.

And in terms of fighting the good fight "responsibly" this excerpt from MLK's letter from the Birmingham jail still applies today more than 50 years later.pic.twitter.com/T6K2I0dFle
