They're weird, for sure. Especially how state is managed, where you can jump anywhere and re-run a line. In fact I used to think they were just a 'really bad IDE' lol. I changed.
Probably the mistake there was framing it in terms of IDEs. It's not really for that purpose!

Truth...never treating them as IDEs.... Perfect for leading codelabs too vs having to have all the other boilerplate code you need to illustrate the lesson in a full scale app for example
