This was one of the first images I did with the model I have now that I realized "oh wow- this is doing something cool!" Specifically, it was coloring the cup in fine detail- that really got my attention.

the algorithm favors blue and red a lot. do you know why?

Yes that's a good observation! I'm not -quite- sure yet what's causing it but I've seen progress on making colors more diverse when I make the model bigger (more parameters). It almost seems like some sort of "mode collapse" though (common problem in GANS).
