Ok so I think you're headed to the right direction now! My suggestion with navigating the Python code is you get an IDE like Visual Studio Code and open a cloned copy on your computer. Then you can control+left mouse click code like this and follow it easily.
Because yeah...trying to navigate source code on Github can be a bit cumbersome.
