    Graduate and professional programs are interested in you for a reason. Be the same person you were in your essays! Regardless of the question, remember: - answer clearly and concisely - show interest and enthusiasm - connect your relevant experience - be personable

    How is your eye contact? Do you talk very fast or slow? How are you sitting? Do you have nervous tell like playing with your hands,hair, etc.? Tapping your leg? Mock interviews can help you practice being confident

    Mock interviews also give you a time to think about your body language and professionalism. Answering questions is important, but so is exuding confidence, friendliness, and positivity. Business casual or business is the attire for most interviews.

    “Why should we accept you to our program” Highlight your strengths! You know yourself best. Personal, academic, extracurricular, and outreach accomplishments should be discussed. How will you uniquely contribute to this program? How do you fit into their mission?

    “Why are you interested in our school?” You probably talked about this in your personal statement. Highlight the research and PIs you are excited about, student organizations, professional development, outreach, etc. Show you are excited about the program and did your homework!

    “What is your most significant accomplishment?” Highlight anything you are proud of! You are a unique individual and this is an opportunity to talk about whatever you want. Be personable and honest!

    "What motivates you to pursue a ____ (Master's, PhD, MD,PhD, etc.) ?" This is YOUR story. What has influenced you? What do you hope to accomplish through your research?

    "What Is an area you hope to explore in graduate school?" There is no clear "right" answer to this. Some students are open to many different fields, while some students have a more specific research interest. Be confident and explain why you are interested.

    "Tell me about your research" Practice a 3-5 minute description of your research. Start broad then going into more specific details. This will help you stay focused and your interviewer follow your logic.

    "Tell me about yourself" This is sometimes the first question asked. Some see it as an ice breaker to help the applicant relax. You can talk about your science motivations, hobbies, where you are from, etc. Most importantly, everything should connect to your big picture!

  20. We are happy to introduce Mindy Le to the Científico Latino Team as our Blog Editor-in-Chief. She is a Florida native and first-generation Vietnamese-American. She is passionate about increasing scientific literacy in society and is motivated to improve communication in science.
