We’ve stumbled across a good phrase on Times Radio for a lengthy essay that blames everyone but yourself. The opposite of a mea culpa: it’s a theya culpa.

This confirms my own conversations in recent weeks with U.K. security experts, who may have lots to criticise about Germany, but also argue that 'the U.K. needs a Zeitenwende of its own’. By which they mean: more funding, new ammunition, better equipment and training.

It suits some Tory politicians to maintain the possibility/threat of leaving the ECHR, because it appeals to the “sovereignty”/anti-Europe wing, and provides someone to blame for problems eg on immigration/1

In the era of strategic tech decoupling, historically unprecedented level of espionage, military buildups, fight for allies, bases and global influence, and talk of likely war, I would love to hear reasonable counterpoints for how we are *not* already in a Cold War II with China

Penny Wong King’s College speech: less of an attack on the British empire and more about diplomacy - by far the most astute take on this week’s event. She showed that regardless of one’s politics, geopolitics are central to read international affairs.

I’ve mentioned in the past that a deal which would please the DUP, TUV etc (removal of protocol) would, almost certainly, lead to SF and nationalism generally giving up on the assembly. The conundrum: how do you keep enough protocol for one side and lose enough for the other?
Quote Tweet
Not sure this has been reported before … SF would not serve in an Executive if protocol overridden @ConorBurnsUK in interview with @AndrewMarr9 on @LBC … if true makes SF criticism of DUP sound completely hypocritical…

If an organisation can be taken down by one phishing email, it’s the fault of the organisation, not of the person who innocently clicked on the phishing in good faith.
This is always and everywhere true.
It’s as close as we get to a law in cybersecurity.

Blame the phished employee? Utter bollocks. Security should be planned around the fact that humans make mistakes. If anybody is to be blamed, it's DCAD for failing to implement MFA (which could have prevented the incident.) 2/

This is an excellent, and extremely disturbing, overview of the impact of the #ransomware attack on Ireland's public health system. The impact of attacks on health outcomes is an issue that receives too little attention. Kudos to 1/

I need to make a declaration re: this latest piece of government silliness.
Circa 1995 and I was approached by a law researcher at UC Berkeley who wanted to discuss "liability regarding hacking tools"
As author of a password cracker, this interested me...

No, no new crypto development at all in the UK.
