You've fallen into the trap of holding liberals and Democrats to a ludicrously high -- and utterly un-fucking-realistic standard! -- while simultaneously holding the GOP and the right-wing to a standard so low, you could kneel down and still piss on its head.

If you're mad at Samantha Bee, or Michelle Wolf, or De Niro, for saying NAUGHTY WORDS OOOOH, you're a fucking dipshit. Newsflash: our president confessed to sexual assault in the baldest of terms. The admin is separating kids from families. The Trump family stole CHARITY MONEY.

It's an awfully weird time to be fucking tone policing, isn't it? "OH GOD I'M BEING EATEN BY A FUCKING TIGER FUCK FUCK OW FUCK" "Whoa whoa whoa, Dave, maybe your *toilet mouth* is why the tiger has chosen to eat you. Try a little politeness from now on, fella."

The idea here is that somehow we're turning off potential anti-Trump voters by -- oh no! -- saying salty words about the man. Yeah, bad news. If that train can truly be derailed with so tiny a pebble, it wasn't even gonna reach its destination, okay?

If they're turned off by a little smidge of profanity, but *not* considerably more off-kilter thanks to the ACTUAL VULGARIAN in the White House who is basically using us, the flag, the Constitution as toilet paper -- they were never gonna vote against him, not ever.

Real-talk: at this point I distrust anybody who *doesn't* liberally pepper their statements about him with rage-froth vulgarisms. If you don't uncontrollably utter "FUCK TRUMP" at least *twice a day* you're probably of dubious judgment anyway.

But see, that's the trick. That's how the GOP have this narrative. They constantly play the aggrieved underdog. They kick a homeless guy in the ribs and then say he attacked them and broke their foot. And the media, somehow, inexplicably, buys it every time.

The right has crafted a sneaky narrative, one where they get to walk away with every atrocity in the book -- while simultaneously holding full court press against the teeniest slight cast by someone on the left. "Yes, I killed a baby, but that Democrat was RUDE about it."

What's fucked up is when we, on the left, buy into that narrative. "Well, maybe that IS why we lost, maybe we SHOULD be better." We're so in love with the high-road narrative that we police our own on that high road instead of watching the saboteurs driving the road beneath us.

And then of course you have Russia and other ill-intended agents and foes coming up and helping drive that wedge in the left even further. A task picked up and carried dutifully by a media obsessed with "both sides."

They of course pick up the both sides narrative *not!* because it serves some well-intended narrative of balance, but because it fucking sells. It works. It gets us to click and tweet and be pissed and we frothily share it, widening that gap. I do it. You do it.

The Clinton e-mail narrative was a hollow story from the get-go, but they gave it endless air time -- attention that begets attention that begets attention.

More to the point though, we have to stop with the false equivalencies. Michelle Wolf telling Sarah Chucklefuck Sanders that she's a liar is *nowhere the same* as the fact that Sanders, oh, I dunno, ACTUALLY FUCKING LIES ALL THE TIME

Samantha Bee calling Ivanka a naughty name is literally ten galaxies away from Ivanka helping portion money from CHARITY to go toward her family.

In the fight of David and Goliath, it'd be like if the media and commentators were like, "Well, admittedly, David *did* call Goliath an asshole. Soooooo. Yeah. They're kinda both at fault, here."

In the Rebellion versus the Empire, a HoloNet commentator: "I do think that Mon Mothma overstepped when she said Vader was 'more Machine than Man.' That's a little Machinist, isn't it? Shouldn't the Rebellion be held to a higher standard? Maybe Tarkin had a point when he said..."

Anyway. Whatever. Point is: Fuck Trump, and fuck anybody who says you can't say that, and fuck anybody who thinks saying Fuck Trump is the problem and not, say, the Deep, Terrifying Fucking the Trump Administration is delivering to America right now, every day, every 5 minutes.

This, it reminds me, is the technique of abusers, isn't it? A tiny perceived infraction is used to justify a much larger, considerably disproportionate abuse. In a kind of weaponized, venomous hypocrisy.

A woman, these monsters say, deserves what comes to her because... well, rattle off the perceived (non)-infractions -- what she was wearing, what she said, whose room she went to, what date she went on, what alley she passed by, what choices she made, etc.etc.

A racist being called a racist is a worse infraction than the actual racism, somehow, to them. Which is nonsense, but you see the kind of logic we're dealing with here -- it's a cruel, callous, callow reversal. One used by bullies since the beginning of time to justify abuse.

"You're crying? I'LL give you something to cry about." Right? You made the crime of having some feelings, young boy, and now your abusive father is going to make it worse using that as the justification. Fucked up, but that's it, laid bare.

"TERF IS A SLUR," people say, as if to completely spackle over the fact that excluding and neglecting the existence of a whole group of people is ACTUALLY BAD. But calling it out, they say, is just as bad, or maybe worse? (Spoiler: it ain't.)

I mean, fuck, didn't this just happen in SW fandom? Rian Johnson calling a very specific subset of fans manbabies (spoiler: 'cause they were baby-men), or me calling that toxic subsection of fans "shitty" because, again, spoiler: they wuz shitty.

It's the playbook of any of these toxic fan groups -- "WE JUST CARE ABOUT JOURNALISTIC ETHICS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE AND IF YOU HADN'T BEEN RUDE TO US WE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO ISSUE DEATH THREATS, BECAUSE REALLY, AREN'T WE THE OPPRESSED UNDERDOGS?" (no, you're not, turds.)

It all comes from a poisoned, septic well-spring. And of course we know what the well-spring is (sing it with me: toxic masculinity and abusive white privilege) and I don't know how we heal those waters, but I know we don't do it by staying quiet and polite, so again, FUCK TRUMP.
