Your epitaph as chairman of the judiciary committee will emphasize the enormous damage you did to the courts and the Senate w/ Merrick Garland.

I'll elaborate. Keeping a seat open for a year means (1) no Senate will confirm a SCOTUS nominee from the opposite party for the foreseeable future; (2) there may be an attempt to change the US statute that limits SCOTUS justices to 9. That arms race has no end point.

Maybe we will get a court that looks more like a legislature with an ever-expanding roster of judges. That's the Pandora's box you and McConnell opened. This cavalier departure from precedent disgusts me.

And don't pretend both sides do it. Alleged sexual harrasser Clarence Thomas got a vote from a Dem Senate to replace Thurgood Marshall--a liberal lion on the bench. Robert Bork got a vote and when he lost (6 GOP voted against him) Kennedy got a vote in an election year.
