Statements are just words. Accountability in actions is what is needed. If you want to write something that matters, put it on the shared performance scorecards as one of the Key Performance Measures to deliver expected results. It is the “How” that matches up with the “What.”

FYI the McCarthy era loyalty oaths are still in place at the University of California.
-
Lest anyone be misled, as even the author of this piece notes, despite his concerns and objection, " the recent UCLA policy is far from the loyalty oaths deployed at the University of California during the McCarthy era." The UCLA policy is not a loyalty oath.
-
I am referring to an oath that all UC employees (not just UCLA) must sign as a condition of their employment, to uphold and defend the Constitutions of the USA and of California. It stems from the McCarthy era and is still in place AFAIK.
-
It seems relatively harmless compared to the things I've seen down here.
-
Absolutely don't doubt you. In modern times, folks at U Cal seem to treat it as a silly little legal form you sign the 1st day on the job, to be ignored ever afterwards. (But it is still there.)

What is more difficult is how to even comply with EDI in the scope of what you do. Is it really just cover for informal racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, religious quotas with respect to mentoring jr faculty and advising graduate students?
