For yrs, TX has said it can provide high-quality family planning to low-income women w/out . & yrs of data shows the state was wrong. Now, the Trump admin has agreed to throw millions at this failed program, which will limit access to birth control.

When and I went to Denver to report on this last year, the resentment and bitterness over the last failed abolition effort was INTENSE. An important, overdue win for anti-death penalty activists in the region.

Of the 7,335 people sentenced to death in the U.S. since 1976, a staggering 2,373 were later resentenced. No fewer than 132 were exonerated. 👇🏼 From a massive and revelatory new dataset of death penalty info collected by and .

The Intercept published an investigative piece reporting the push to repeal the death penalty, which heavily features Nebraska’s movement for abolition. I’m pleased to be quoted in this piece and I hope you read it. by ,

Today my colleagues published a project years in the making — a dataset charting the arc of the death penalty over the past four decades (somehow it got more racist). Amazing work. Hats off to , , and .

And despite the fact that many still insist the death penalty is necessary — &, shockingly, even claim it is functional — increasingly there are bipartisan efforts to abolish the wasteful and inequitable practice. Particularly in western states. 6/7

The data shows that, as always, the death penalty is arbitrary & capricious. & that it is very much a factor of zip code. Orlando SA Aramis Ayala said this back in 2017. Then Gov. Rick Scott didn’t like it. But guess what? was right. 5/7

Among the most startling, if not entirely shocking, revelations? The realization that the death penalty, always a racist endeavor, has become even more so. Looking at the death penalty in Texas provides a great lens through which to see this. 4/7
