Your emotions are a tunnel. You need to walk through the tunnel. If you sit down in the tunnel, you will stay there forever. You can't turbo charge your way through tunnel, or slice it in half exactly where you stand. There is an end to the tunnel, but you have to get there.

Your emotions are the ocean. Sometimes a wave will hit you and you find that you're swimming in the ocean. If you stop treading, you will drown in your emotions. Try to keep your head above water so you can see where you want to go.

Recently, my emotions feel like weather. They come and go, and have predictable patterns. I can even forecast a bit based on internal wind patterns. Sometimes it's rainy and sometimes it's sunny, it's just my internal weather for at this moment given the circumstances.

oh and of course— IFS metaphor of emotions as signals of parts. Begin with the physical sensation, notice where it is in your body, observe how you feel about the sensation. Can you name it? Can you talk to it? Ask what it needs? What is it trying to tell you?

Your emotions are colors. Do you feel red? blue? chartreuse? thick fog grey? misty grey? iridescent?

Your emotions are a metaphor/phrase/anecdote. "I feel like a rejected cigarette butt, tossed away and ground vigorously into the dirt."
