A stunningly large part of life relies on meaning making and it is both prevalent and incredibly powerful. It happens irrespective of our awareness and punctuates daily life. I believe exercising some fluidity with the meaning that you afford to life can be incredibly fun.

Also just as important is to try and understand how others around you assign meaning to life. When I say empathy that's exactly what I mean. What angle someone assigns to something can reveal volumes about their life and motivations.

I think some years ago, when I was 20 or so, I learnt how to be able to see how people make the stories of their own life and tell it to themselves as well as others. And only recently did I experiment with changing how I assign meaning. These are both skills i will hone for life

This is a great question that I should think about a lot more. I think it was a slow process for me and many other small changes coagulated together like oil droplets in water to finally lead to the change. The first step, however, was changing my diet of what I consume.

As in not good wise. But information wise. And a big part of it was online. I changed up my twitter/Tumblr and started following people who were earnest about whatever small thing they cared about (irony despite all its humour doesn't get you very far).

It really gave me an interesting glimpse and slowly helped me see things differently. I trust myself to not be completely swayed by some fad I see online so it was easy to notice how and where I changed. For you it could be listening to new music or picking up a new activity.

Any small change when thought about can lead to an entirely new angle. Maybe okay around with the activity that occupies a lot of your time. Say you walk for an hour a day, so just switch it up, and notice the changes. It can slowly permeate many other areas of life.
